Abbott Confirms Plans for October School Choice Focused Special Session, with Another One Likely if Needed
Gov. Abbott — during a public “tele-townhall” event on Tuesday — confirmed his intention to call a special session focused on education reform (a/k/a “school choice”) in October — and said he will likely call a follow-up session soon after if legislators don’t pass legislation to his liking.
Abbott also announced he plans to support primary challengers to Republican lawmakers who oppose his school choice priority legislation.
“There’s an easy way to get this done, and there’s a hard way,” Abbott said, adding: “We will take it either way — in a special session or after an election.”
Abbott also used the tele-townhall event to encourage Texans to participate in School Choice Sunday on Oct. 15. The governor was joined by several prominent Texas pastors. (press release)
