“Local Food for Texas Schools” Reimbursements

National School Lunch and National Breakfast Program contracting entities — that are not contracted with a food service management company — may now opt in to be reimbursed for up to $30,000 to buy Texas produced food products meeting specified criteria.
The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) said the program seeks to strengthen local and regional food systems, with a focus on historically underserved producers and small businesses. All foods purchased must be unprocessed or minimally processed.
Total reimbursements per contracting entity — up to the $30,000 limit — will be based on enrollment. There are no cost-sharing or matching requirements for this program.
The $22.3 million program is the result of a cooperative agreement between the TDA and the Agricultural Marketing Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Deadline: Oct. 17.
