Judge’s Ruling on Whether to Grant Injunction in Accountability Lawsuit Could Come by Oct. 20

The Travis County judge presiding over the lawsuit pitting about 111 school districts against the education commissioner said Tuesday that she will issue a ruling on whether to grant the temporary injunction sought by the school districts by Friday, Oct. 20, or possibly by the end of the month.

That is what various media outlets reported (here and here) that the judge said at the conclusion of a lengthy hearing.

The districts are seeking an injunction to prevent — pending the outcome of a trial — the commissioner from going ahead with his announced plans to calculate 2023 district and campus accountability ratings based on revised criteria that was not in place when the 2022-23 school year began.

The commissioner previously announced he has postponed releasing the ratings from Sept. 28 to some time in late October or early November.

The lawsuit was originally filed in August by seven ISDs.
