Governor Appoints Aaron Kinsey as SBOE’s New Chair

Gov. Abbott announced on Monday that he has appointed State Board of Education (SBOE) member Aaron Kinsey, R-Midland, as the board’s chair for a term that will expire Dec. 17, 2025.
Kinsey will succeed Kevin Ellis, R-Lufkin, who has served as the board’s chair since he was appointed in 2019 by the governor. Ellis will continue to serve as a SBOE board member.
Kinsey is CEO of American Patrols, Inc., which is an aviation oilfield services company.
Kinsey was first elected to the SBOE for a term beginning in January 2023, and has filed for re-election for his SBOE ok District 15 board seat.
The governor gets to chose the board’s chair from among the 15 elected SBOE members. Kinsey’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
