Education Commissioner Picks Five Finalist Charter Applicants

The TEA today posted the names of the five finalist charter applicants selected by the education commissioner to undergo scrutiny next month by the State Board of Education (SBOE).
- Note: We will post a link to the TEA’s official announcement of the commissioner’s finalist selections, when available.
Applicants that are not vetoed by the SBOE — and resolve so-called “contingencies” identified by TEA staff — will be cleared to start accepting students for the first time no earlier than the 2025-26 school year.
These are the surviving applicants, with links to their applications — along with the name of the applicant’s sponsoring entity (if different from the name of the proposed charter), and the proposed general area the charter proposes to serve:
- Infinite Minds (INFINITE MINDS SCHOOL), D/FW area.
- Pathway Academy (EVOLVING FUTURES), Big Spring ISD/ Coahoma ISD/ Forsan ISD.
- The Texas Girls School (THE SCHOOL FOR GLOBAL THINKERS), Lake Travis ISD/Leander ISD.
- Unparalleled Preparatory Academy (UNPARALLELED EDUCATION, INC.), Manor ISD area.
- Visionary STEM Academy (CATALYST VISIONARY EDUCATION), all or part of Kaufman, Hunt, Rockwall and Van Zandt counties.
Note: It is possible that the geographic area listed may be revised, pending negotiations with TEA.
The public will have its only opportunity to present testimony to the SBOE about the commissioner’s choices for new charters on a to-be-designated day (check for agenda updates here) during the week leading up to the board’s Friday, June 28, general meeting.
