2024 Elementary/Middle School STAAR Results
The TEA today released the spring 2024 STAAR results for elementary and middle school students. Highlights (when compared to last school year’s results):
- Math performance declined in all grades tested (3 to 8). The TEA labeled the math declines in all grades as “significant.”
“Pandemic-Induced Disruptions” in Math
“Pandemic-induced disruptions to learning exacerbated students’ difficulties in mastering fundamental math concepts,” Education Commissioner Mike Morath said, adding:
“As a result, we must keep our foot on the gas to intensify efforts in providing targeted interventions and research-based education strategies to ensure that students obtain necessary foundational skills and concepts and achieve the desired academic outcomes not only in math but across all subject areas.” - Reading-Language Arts performance declined in grades 3, 5 and 8 — and increased in grades 4 and 6.
- Science performance declined in both grades (5 and 8) grades tested.
- Social Studies showed no change in the only grade (8) tested.
