TRS Welcomes New Board Chair and a New Board Member

Next week’s July 18-19 TRS meeting will be gaveled into session by a new board chair with a new board member in attendance.
That’s due to these TRS board appointments that Gov. Abbott recently announced:
- The new TRS board chair is current board member Robert H. “Rob” Walls, Jr., a business and legal executive with experience in the energy, media and private equity industries. He joined the TRS board in October 2019 for a six-year term expiring on Aug. 31, 2025.

- New to the board is John R. Rutherford, who fills the board position previously held by Jarvis V. Hollingsworth as the governor’s direct appointee. Rutherford is a former Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) board member and has a decades-long background as an executive in the investment banking and energy business. Rutherford’s term expires on Aug. 31, 2029.
The recent appointments are not related to the current open nomination process that is under way for the expiring trustee position representing public school district employees.
