El Paso Produced Video Warns: “School Threats are No Joke”

El Paso County District Attorney Bill D. Hicks held a press conference this week to announce the premiere of “School Threats Are No Joke,” an educational short video intended to raise awareness among students about making threats against schools.

The video is in response to the constant number of gun threats and bomb threats that Hicks says El Paso school districts are seeing on a weekly basis.

The video demonstrates how law enforcement will go to a student’s house to arrest the student making a threat against a school.

“The fact that you are not even intending to do it, that it is a joke to you, is actually an element to the offense of terroristic threat,” Hicks said.

In addition to the district attorney’s office and the FBI, the collaborative effort also included the Fabens, Ysleta, Socorro, El Paso, Canutillo and San Elizario school districts, whose students are being shown the video.
