Analysis: 424 Cleaner Electric School Buses Committed to Texas

A total of 424 clean electric school buses are committed, on their way or operating in Texas.
That’s according to reporting by Environment Texas, based on an analysis released this week by the U.S. PIRG Education Fund and the Environment Texas Research & Policy Center.
According to the analysis:
- A total of $184 million in state and federal funding is invested in Texas for electric school bus programs.
- Texas ranks 8th for the total number of electric school buses, and is 4th nationally for combined federal and state investments into electric bus fleets.
- Four school districts alone account for 100 of the 424 operating or committed buses. Austin ISD has a total of 28 committed or operating buses, Killeen and Socorro ISDs have 25 each, and Wylie ISD has 22.
- The metro area with the largest number of electric buses is Dallas-Fort Worth, with 54 buses committed or operating across five school districts.
Environment Texas has more (here), including a list of Texas school districts and the number of electric buses for each district.
- Note: In related news, The Washington Examiner reports that the all-Republican-member House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations on Tuesday evening released the findings of a yearlong investigation into the Environmental Protection Agency’s electric school bus program.
The report labels the program “a failure” by pointing to extensive costs, delays in delivery and failed reliability of the buses.
