Details of a plot to attack two New Braunfels area high schools and a Buc-ee’s were revealed as a 20-year-old man pleaded guilty late last week to federal charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Antonio, in a press release, said this is a case of “mass murder attacks thwarted by federal and local law enforcement.”

Cameron Darrick Peterson, who was facing three federal charges, instead pleaded guilty to one count of “attempt to receive firearm to use to commit a felony.”

According to prosecutors (and supplemented by the reporting of San Antonio media), Peterson planned to first attack the Buc-ee’s mega convenience store/gas station along Interstate 35 in New Braunfels and (while law enforcement rushed to the attack site amid the panicked public) he would go on to attack two area high schools.

Peterson is scheduled to be sentenced by a federal judge in San Antonio on Feb. 5, 2025, and faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
