TEA Cancels Latest “GEAR UP” Federal Grant Application Cycle

The TEA today announced the cancellation of the 2025-26 Texas Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR Up) application cycle (RFA 701-25-117).

The application cycle opened for submissions on Nov. 12 and was to close on Jan. 17.

The TEA’s announcement said an unexpected federal deadline change required the agency to cancel the call for applications from districts.

Instead, the TEA will use various data to identify districts to be included in the agency’s GEAR UP application to the U.S. Department of Education.
