Gov. Abbott Orders Flags Raised to Full-Staff on Jan. 20 for Inauguration Day

Gov. Abbott today ordered all flags to be raised to full-staff at the Texas Capitol and all state buildings on Jan. 20 in honor of Inauguration Day (that begins Donald J. Trump‘s tenure as the nation’s 47th president).
The flags have been at half staff since Dec. 29, 2024, the date of the death of former President Jimmy Carter, and were ordered to remain at half-staff (per an order by President Biden) for 30 days, a period ending Jan. 29, 2025.
Said the governor: “While we honor the service of a former President, we must also celebrate the service of an incoming President and the bright future ahead for the United States of America.”
- Note: Abbott previously made news when he initially conveyed (on his X account) his condolences to Rosalynn Carter, who died in 2023. Abbott quickly released a revised statement that ended by expressing his deepest condolences to the entire Carter family.
