Comptroller Glenn Hegar Picked as the “Lone Finalist” for Texas A&M System’s Next Chancellor

The Texas A&M University System’s board unanimously voted Friday (press release) to select Comptroller Glenn Hegar as the sole finalist to be the system’s chancellor.
Per state law, there is a 21-day waiting period before the board can finalize their selection.
If given final approval, Hegar will succeed current Chancellor John Sharp, the longest serving chancellor in the system’s history. Sharps retirement becomes effective on June 30.
Hegar is a 1993 graduate of Texas A&M University, and received law degrees from St. Mary’s University and the University of Arkansas.
