SBOE’s Revised ISD Board Trainer Requirements Become Effective on Aug. 25
Major changes to the State Board of Education (SBOE) rule governing ISD school board trainers will become effective Aug. 25, 2025.
The rule revisions — as finally adopted by the SBOE last November — were posted in the March 21, 2025, Texas Register.
The revisions:
- Establish new eligibility requirements for trainers of school boards to include a background check.
- Establish that only individuals (not organizations) are eligible to provide training to school board trustees.
- Prohibit trainers of school boards from engaging in political advocacy during training.
The rule does not apply to charter governing boards.
