Dr. Jamey Harrison has been named executive director of the UIL, the league announced Monday.

Harrison’s appointment will take effect on April 1, 2025, as longtime UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt prepares to retire on August 31.

Harrison has served as Deputy Executive Director of UIL since 2011, playing a key role in the league’s efforts to provide high-quality, educational extracurricular academic, athletic and music contests for Texas students. In this role, he has overseen all UIL departments, led governmental relations efforts and supervised rulemaking and adjudication processes.

He will become the eighth executive director in UIL history.

Harrison is a former Bridge City ISD superintendent, and his career in education includes experience as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, high school principal and deputy superintendent.

A graduate of Hardin-Jefferson High School, Dr. Harrison earned both his undergraduate and Master of Education degrees from Lamar University before completing his doctoral degree at The University of Texas at Austin.
