Governor Appoints Four to SBEC’s Board

Gov. Abbott on Monday (April 28) announced four appointments to SBEC’s board for terms expiring (except as noted) on Feb. 1, 2031.

  • Reappointed for a new term:
    • Wanda “Jean” Streepey (Dallas) is a Highland Park ISD high school business teacher and is SBEC’s current board chair.

  • New to the board:
    • Adam Booth (Leander) is a third grade teacher at Valor Education charter school.

    • Tara Turk-Zaafran (Houston) is a former vice principal at Houston’s ILM Academy (an Islamic private school) — and has experience teaching biology and chemistry in Texas and Florida public and private schools.

    • Latisha Andrews (Houston) is Beta Academy Charter School’s founder, CEO and superintendent, for a term expiring Feb. 1, 2029.

The appointments are subject to Texas Senate confirmation.
