Alvin ISD Says Data Breach Potentially Affected 47,000+ People

Alvin ISD last Friday (May 2) made a required reporting (here) to the Texas Attorney General of a data breach affecting 47,606 people.
The info posted on the Texas AG’s website as being accessed included:
- Names of individuals.
- Social Security numbers.
- Driver’s license numbers.
- Government issued ID numbers (of passports, state ID cards).
- Financial info (such as account numbers, credit/debit card numbers).
- Medical information.
- Health insurance information.
Infosecurity Magazine independently reported that the ransomware gang Fog took credit for the attack — asserting it stole 60 GB of data from the district in June 2024.
The group published the district’s name on its data leak site — a common tactic used to pressure victims into paying a ransom, the magazine further reported. (The district has not disclosed whether a ransom was paid.)
The district reportedly has begun notifying the affected individuals.
