TEA Releases Innovative Autism Grant Services Report

Sensory rooms, facilitating selected staff to become registered behavior technicians (RBT) and parental/community engagement programs are a few of the numerous ways that the recipients of a TEA administered grant program focusing on innovative services for autism used their funding.

That’s according to a newly released 40-page TEA report on a two-cycle grant program spanning two school years (2022-23 through 2023-24) to fund ISD and charter innovative services for students with autism.

$60.2 Million Awarded

The TEA awarded grants totaling $60.2 million to 55 applicants (out of the 78 applications received) for the grants the Legislature appropriated four years ago. Applications were awarded to individual ISDs and charters and to collaborations of ISDs and charters.

One of the grant requirements was to “build effective, scalable models that could be replicated in other areas of the state.”

The average amount awarded per grant was $1.1 million. Region 13 (Austin) Education Service Center administered the grant program for TEA.
