TEA Posts Employee Telework Policy

The TEA has just posted a two-page telework policy for the agency’s employees who are allowed to work remotely.

Note: The policy meets the HB5196/regular session mandate requiring state agencies that allow telework to develop a plan that addresses the agency’s telework policies and procedures‚ and to publish that plan on the agency’s publicly accessible website.

Only Within Texas

One of the many requirements is that the teleworking — when ultimately approved by the education commissioner (or his designee) — may only occur within Texas.

For approved teleworkers, TEA provides the computers and other technical equipment.

But, the teleworking employee is responsible for arranging (and paying for) reliable internet (minimum 8Mb/s download, 2Mb/s upload), the home office setup (such as furniture), etc.

There are also provisions covering security and protecting sensitive information, maintaining professionalism, adhering to the TEA’s dress code, responding promptly to communications, and more.
