New TEA Hotline Supports Students Experiencing Homelessness

The TEA today (Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025) launched Texas Education for Homeless Children and Youth (TEHCY) Support.
The TEA describes TEHCY Support as “a comprehensive statewide initiative designed to provide direct assistance to families and educators supporting students experiencing homelessness under the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.”
Hotline
At the center of this initiative is the TEHCY Support Hotline, a toll-free number (see image) offering real-time access to trained experts. Whether a parent needs help enrolling their child in school or an educator is seeking guidance on supporting a student experiencing homelessness, the hotline provides immediate technical assistance, resources and support.
Web Intake Form
TEHCY Support also includes a web-based intake form added to the program’s portal for educators and families to submit technical assistance requests.
Existing Regional Network
The TEA says these enhancements build on the existing TEHCY Regional Network, a partnership with the state’s 20 Education Service Centers (ESC) that support more than 1,200 school systems.
TEHCY is coordinated for the TEA by Region 11 (Fort Worth area) ESC.
