“Letters about Literature Texas” Competition for 4th to 12th Graders
The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is inviting Texas 4th-through-12th graders to participate in Letters About Literature, an annual writing competition administered by the Texas Center for the Book.
Students will read a book or poem and write a letter to an author — living or dead — explaining how his or her work changed their view of themselves or the world.
Cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100 will be awarded respectively to the first, second and third place winners in each of the three grade-based categories (4-6, 7-8 and 9-12).
First place winners will also receive a travel stipend to attend the Texas Library Association 2026 Annual Conference in Houston in March 2026, where they will be recognized and receive their awards — and their school libraries will receive $300.
