Only one Generation 31 charter applicant made Education Commissioner Mike Morath’s final list.

Out of 18 applicants that originally applied last December, Morath chose Texas High School for Accelerated Learning (THSAL) — that seeks to open in the Houston area (Spring and Aldine ISDs) no earlier than SY 2027-28.

The charter’s authorizer, Second Mile Education, operates schools in Florida, North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina.

The State Board of Education will have its one (and only) opportunity to veto the application during its June 2026 meeting, where public comment will be accepted.
