TEA Posts $10M School Bus Seat Belt Grant Details
The TEA today (June 18, 2026) posted application info for the $10 million grant program to assist school systems with retrofitting school buses with three-point seat belts under provisions of 2025’s SB546 (regular session).
The School Bus Safety Grant Program will provide award recipients with a maximum of $6,000 per school bus to retrofit school buses with three-point seat belts.
The following school systems are eligible to apply for the grant:
- School systems receiving the Transportation Allotment, under Texas Education Code §48.151.
- School systems that have completed the SB 546 Required Reporting on School Seat Belt Costs that was due to be submitted to TEA by May 29, 2026.
Deadline: Aug. 14, 2026.
