The State Board of Education (SBOE) is accepting nominations for the 2026 Heroes for Children Award, celebrating more than 30 years of honoring exceptional volunteers in Texas education.

Each year, the SBOE selects 15 people, one from each board member’s district, to be recognized as heroes.

To be eligible for nomination, candidates must volunteer their time, effort, service and support to public schools and students.  (Elected officials and educational employees are not eligible to be nominated.)

Nominations close on July 3, 2026, and honorees will be celebrated during a SBOE general meeting in Austin.
