Abbott to Address his “Texas Classroom Commission” on Monday

Gov. Greg Abbott announced today (Aug. 6, 2026) that he will host the first meeting of the Texas Classroom Commission and deliver remarks at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at the Governor’s Mansion.
The governor announced the creation of the commission on July 7.
The commission consists of current and retired teachers who are tasked with developing recommendations ahead of the 2027 legislative session for classroom instruction, teacher support and educational outcomes.
Abbott named former Dallas and Richardson ISD math educator Courtney Boswell MacDonald to run the “teacher-led initiative.” She currently chairs SBEC’s governing board.
Abbott appointed these 21 other commission members:
