Update: Klein ISD Teacher’s Nonrenewal Upheld in “Altered Artwork” Case
Editor’s note: This article was updated on Oct. 23, 2026, to: 1) state precisely the grounds the commissioner found that are supported by substantial evidence, 2) note that the commissioner did not decide if the teacher violated a specific Texas Educators’ Code of Ethics provision and 3) summarize the teacher’s arguments.

Ruling: A school board properly nonrenewed a teacher’s contract because substantial evidence supported findings that the teacher misrepresented facts during a district investigation into alterations to student artwork submitted to a contest, along with other grounds for nonrenewal.
