Memorial Services Pending for Retired TCTA Executive Director Jeri Stone

Memorial services are pending for Jeri Stone, who retired as Texas Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA) executive director in 2022, after a 43-year career with the association.

Stone, 70, died peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 26, surrounded by loving family at her West Lake Hills, TX, home after a recent cancer diagnosis.

After graduating with a law degree from UT Austin in 1977, Stone started working for TCTA the next year — where she quickly distinguished herself as a brilliant writer, attorney and lobbyist. She became the association’s executive director in 1985.

It was also at TCTA that she met the love of her life, Lonnie Hollingsworth, Jr., whose service with the association continues as TCTA’s general counsel. The two were married in 1990 and had three children.

Stone’s obituary was published in the Austin American-Statesman, where fond remembrances of her may be left.
