The State Board of Education (SBOE), by a one-vote margin on Tuesday, greenlighted sending the consideration of a controversial grades K-5 reading curriculum — that includes Bible stories — to the board for a final vote on Friday.

The vote to remove the controversial curriculum from the package of instructional materials to be considered for final adoption at the Friday general meeting failed 7-8, with Gov. Abbott‘s recent temporary appointment to the board casting the deciding vote that keeps the item alive.

On Monday, more than 100 speakers voiced pro and con sentiments about the curriculum.
