Former Tomball ISD tax manager accused of stealing nearly $1M in resident property tax payments
(KPRC) Kristi Williams, the former Tomball ISD Manager of Property Tax Administration, has been federally charged with wire fraud after an investigation by FBI Houston. Federal authorities allege Williams stole nearly $1 million in tax payments to the school district.
Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock to resign at end of month
(Texas Tribune) Gov. Greg Abbott chose the former GOP lawmaker for the role last year, giving him the reins of Texas’ $1 billion school voucher rollout. Hancock was defeated in his bid for a full term in March.

Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD board member sues district over restricted access to district property, funds
(KSAT) Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD (SCUCISD) trustee Matthew Short is suing the district he represents in an effort to restore his access to district property and funds, court records obtained Tuesday by KSAT Investigates show. Short, who records show is representing himself, filed the lawsuit on June 18 for a temporary restraining order against SCUCISD, Superintendent Paige A. Meloni and board President Letticia Sever. The board had voted to restrict Short’s access following a dispute with former employer, Judson ISD.
Judge dismisses Judson ISD trustee’s lawsuit against his own district as too long
(San Antonio Express-News) A federal judge dismissed without prejudice a 198-page lawsuit filed by Judson ISD trustee José Macias against the district, ruling that the complaint was too long. Macias, who is seeking to overturn a censure and related sanctions and recover $1 million in damages, has 14 days to file an amended complaint that is no more than 30 pages.

Edinburg CISD reverses course, names CFO as interim super
(myRGV) Although the Edinburg CISD school board previously appointed former La Joya ISD Superintendent Gisela Saenz as interim superintendent, she declined the role. Last week, the board appointed ECISD Chief of Finance and Operations Adel Felix as interim superintendent. Board President Xavier Salinas said the district is currently facing a budget deficit of about $5 million and that appointing Felix to the position is a good idea since she has a strong background in finance and can manage the deficit.

(Houston Chronicle) A new Texas law will require schools to inform families earlier about disability services, a change inspired by a Katy family’s yearslong wait for support. The law requires Texas public schools to provide parents with information about Local Intellectual and Developmental Disability Authorities (LIDDAs) and available public benefits during the first Admission, Review and Dismissal, or ARD, meeting after a child is identified with an intellectual disability or developmental delay. Previously, state law generally required schools to discuss those resources during transition planning, which begins no later than age 14.

Police: Coach arrested at Elgin ISD High School on felony child sex assault charge
(Fox 7 Austin) Jacob Donald Johns was arrested on July 1 at Elgin High School on a first-degree felony aggravated sexual assault of a child charge. Police did not disclose any details regarding the circumstances behind the arrest warrant or if the charge involved a student.
Former United ISD middle school teacher sentenced to 33 years for child sex abuse
(KGNS) A Webb County jury convicted former United ISD Gonzalez Middle School teacher Adriana Rullan on all three counts in a child sexual abuse case July 1, and a judge sentenced her to 33 years in prison. The jury also assessed $20,000 in fines. Prosecutors said the victim was 13 when the abuse occurred.
Former El Paso ISD special education teacher indicted on 16 felony child injury counts
(KFOX) Former El Paso ISD special education teacher Rachael Lucas has been indicted on 16 felony counts tied to alleged abuse of students with special needs. Lucas, who was a teacher at Charles Murphree School, was arrested in July 2025 on charges of bodily injury to a child after she was accused of hitting multiple students with a broom, a chair, and a cellphone, among other allegations of abuse.

Ex-Waco teacher found not guilty by reason of insanity in son’s shooting death recommitted to mental hospital
(KWTX) A former Waco teacher found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2020 shooting death of her 17-year-old son was recommitted to a state mental hospital for further psychiatric treatment on Wednesday. Judge Ryan Luna of Waco’s 414th State District Court ordered Sarah Elizabeth Hunt, 45, to remain at the San Antonio State Hospital for at least another year. Hunt is accused of murdering her teenage son while driving him to school.
Three-alarm fire draws massive response to Killough High School in Lewisville
(Fox 4 KDFW) A three-alarm fire broke out on the roof of Lewisville ISD Killough High School late Tuesday night, drawing a massive response from local firefighters who worked into the early morning hours to contain the blaze. The school was unoccupied when the fire broke out, and crews successfully prevented the flames from breaching interior classrooms and hallways.
Vernon College among many community colleges to see reduction in state funding for 2026-2027 academic school year
(KAUZ) Community colleges across the State of Texas are seeing a reduction in state funding of over $80 million for the academic year 2026-2027. According to Vernon College, the community college will receive $1,212,563 less in state funding next year than this current year. Vernon College stated that 42 community colleges lost funding for this upcoming academic year, with 26 Texas community colleges losing more than Vernon College did.
