Houston ISD is reassigning up to 5,000 special education students. Their parents are pushing back

(Houston Chronicle) Parents have filed multiple complaints with state and federal agencies after the district announced plans to move up to 5,000 students with disabilities to new schools next year. The plan has drawn an investigation by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, which is examining  whether the move violates federal law. HISD parents have also submitted several complaints to the Texas Education Agency.

The cuts are tied to a restructuring underway since the Texas Education Agency appointed a new Board of Managers and superintendent on April 29, 2026. “Superintendent Sandi Massey has established a new vision for the District and is implementing a new, instructionally focused model across all campuses,” the letter to Wellness Coordinators states.

Leaders at Fort Davis ISD considering plans to condense district into single K-12 campus

(NewsWest9) Leaders at Fort Davis ISD are exploring potential plans to condense the school district’s facilities, which could include moving students from all K-12 grade levels into one campus. The district’s Superintendent Jason Crow said in a statement to NewsWest 9 that a close look at recent trends in enrollment and the finances of the district have led administration officials to consider such a change.

Midland ISD to roll out strategic compensation next school year

(NewsWest9) On Monday, the Midland Independent School District announced a new strategic compensation plan that algins compensation with performance. The district believes rewarding teacher and principal performance will help recruit and retain educators in the future. How the system will work is still being figured out. Superintendent Howard expects final evaluation metrics by June to give time for participant input. Principals will be the first to try out the model starting this fall, while teachers are set to join the following school year.

Katy ISD faces $15.7M seatbelt installation costs for school buses

Magnolia ISD approves raises, stipends as part of 2026-27 employee compensation plan

Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD board votes to censure trustee Matthew Short

(KSAT) Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD’s board voted on Thursday to censure trustee Matthew Short, according to video of the district meeting posted online. The censure is a public reprimand. It is the second action taken by the board against Short in the last three months. Board president Letticia Sever said during the meeting that Short sent two cease and desist letters to community members for personal reasons using the district’s address. Sever said that gave the appearance that the letters were a result of the board’s actions.
